Fracture injury at work due to tripping over debris

A man has received £10,000 compensation after suffering a work injury.

Mr F worked as a contractor on a building site when then accident happened.

Mr F was walking along a designated walkway on site when he tripped over debris that had been left lying around by other contractors.  He was carrying a large electrical tool over his shoulder at the time.  As he fell he put his right hand forward to save himself and as he did so the tool fell from his shoulder crushing his right thumb.

Mr F sustained a fracture to the distal phalanx thumb and damage to the nerve for which he underwent surgery.  He has been left with residual stiffness and some cold intolerance.

The out of court settlement was reached with help from Lisa Fairclough of Irwin Mitchell’s Accidents at Work team.
