Six Figure Compensation for Man Injured in Crash

A Manchester student has received over £325,000 in compensation after being injured in a crash.

Mr L suffered serious injuries in the crash, which occurred in 2002, whilst travelling back from University.

The incident occurred at night on the M56 motorway in Cheshire when the vehicle he was driving collided with a stationary vehicle on the motorway. It was subsequently found that the vehicle had been stolen and left stationery without any lights in the central lane of the motorway in which Mr L was travelling.

As a result of the accident Mr L sustained multiple injuries, including a head injury, a broken right wrist, an injury to his left leg, and his pelvis was fractured in two places. The main injury was to his pelvic area which led to a loss of sexual function.

Due to the injuries sustained in the accident Mr L had no memory of the accident itself and, having contacted Irwin Mitchell, they set about obtaining the details of the accident from the police, trying to locate the owner of the stolen vehicle and then obtaining details of the motor insurance covering the vehicle.

During the case, Paul Brown of the Newcastle Office of Irwin Mitchell secured a series of interim payments in excess of £45,000 which meant that Mr L was able to continue with his studies without undue financial hardship.

The insurers subsequently accepted liability for the accident in full. Proceedings were then issued at court. After medical evidence was received confirming the likely future diagnosis a final out of court settlement was reached of just over £325,000.
