£2,700 for Defective Stool Injury
Katrina Elsey from the Public Liability Team in Sheffield has settled a claim on behalf of a lady who was awarded £2,700 in October 2006 by the soft furnishing retailer, Dunelm Mill Limited.
On the 26 April 2005 our client had purchased 2 folding wooden stools from Dunelm Limited of Barkby Thorpe Lane, Leicester. On 11 May 2005 whilst our client was at home, she unfolded her wooden stool and went to sit on it. After our client had been sitting on the stool for approximately 10 minutes suddenly, the wooden stool collapsed, without warning. Our client had no chance to save herself and fell straight down onto her kitchen floor. The wooden leg of the stool was defective which was not detected prior to our client purchasing this stool from the Dunelm Store.
Unfortunately, our client suffered an injury to her coccyx. Our client made a gradual improvement where the pain settled within about 12 months of the accident.
A claim was pursued against Dunelm Limited where liability was admitted for our client’s accident. An amicable out of court settlement has been reached.
