£11,000 in compensation for client who was provided a defective catheter
Defective catheter compensation
Irwin Mitchell Solicitors recovered £11,000 on behalf of their client in a personal injury claim against the manufacturer of a defective catheter.
He was using a size 16 catheter in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. When he tried to remove it, it became lodged and as a consequence he had to remove it by force. This caused lacerations, bruising, a large loss of blood and scaring to the urinal passage as well as intense pain.
He was admitted to hospital and it was noted that his temperature and blood pressure were elevated and he developed rigor and became unconscious for a time, due to what appeared to be re-occurrence of his epileptic fits. He was treated with antibiotics for apparent septicaemia.
During the early hours of the following morning the claimant developed severe chest pains, coronary thrombosis was diagnosed and he was admitted to the hospital Coronary Care Unit and treated accordingly. He remained in hospital for 10 days.
The client instructed Irwin Mitchell Solicitors to investigate a personal injury claim. The manufacturer subsequently admitted that the catheter was faulty and agreed to pay the claimant £11,000 in compensation.
