Compensation for Man for Psychological Injury After Wife Injured in Grandstand Collapse at Festival
Psychological injury compensation
The husband of a woman injured at a festival has received £7000 in compensation after suffering a psychological injury.
Mr X was watching a band at a Christian festival whilst sat on a temporary grandstand with his wife. During the show they were all encouraged to stand, hold hands and jump together to the music. Mr X and his wife did not jump but stood and held hands.
Shortly afterwards, the grandstand collapsed trapping Mr X’s wife’s leg. He had to protect her from being trampled by others fleeing the area and she was trapped for around 90 minutes.
Mr X’s wife suffered an open crush fracture to her leg and had to be cut out by the fire service. Mr X suffered shock, a moderate anxious and depressive adjustment disorder and had to receive counselling.
His claim was settled by Sally Rissbrook, based in Irwin Mitchell’s Sheffield office.
She said "Individuals can claim compensation for pure psychological injury - it is not always necessary to have suffered physical injury."
