Compensation for Sheffield Pensioner After House Wrongly Raided by Police

Police Raid Wrong House

17/04/2008

A 72 year old widower from Sheffield has received compensation after his house was raided by police following flawed intelligence.

Mr X who suffers from spinal arthritis, was taking an afternoon nap when he realised someone was at his front door. He got up to answer but, as he reached it, the door came crashing in.

Four policemen, wearing full body armour and crash helmets, then pushed past him to search his house.

Mr X was told that the police had a warrant to search his address but they soon realised that they had the wrong house.

Mr X, who has lived in the house for 35 years, has suffered from flashbacks ever since the incident. He has been prescribed sleeping tablets and has had to receive a course of counselling because of the incident.

His settlement was achieved with help from Ifti Manzoor of Irwin Mitchell’s Police Actions team.
