Builder Injured in Accident at Work Receives Compensation

Accident at Work

02/07/2008

A builder has received £25,000 compensation after being injured in a work accident.

Mr X was walking along scaffolding carrying a heavy concrete block when he suddenly tripped on some scaffold batting which was the incorrect size and had come loose. As he fell, the concrete block he was carrying fell onto his hand resulting in a compound fracture to Mr X's left index finger.

The claim was settled by Lisa Fairclough of Irwin Mitchell's specialist Accident at Work Team who deal with a variety of industrial accidents including falls from height at work, injuries from defective equipment, and injuries occurring as a result of inadequate training, as well as many other accident circumstamces.

She said, "It is clear here that the Defendant was under a duty to ensure that they provided suitable and safe access to the parts of the building that were being worked on. This was by way of scaffold here, however, given the condition of the scaffold provided they failed in their duty here.

"Had a safe access route been provided, Mr X's accident would not have occurred."
