Noise Induced Hearing Loss Claim Settles for £6000
Worker exposed to excessive noise at work without ear protection
Claimant worked as an Engineer in the Merchant Navy and was exposed to excessive noise at work without ear protection between 1972-1977.
Ear protection was supplied in 1977, but by that time the noise induced hearing loss damage had already been done. The client was exposed to noise from ships engines, pumps and compressors.
The claim settled without admission of liability before issue of court proceedings and our client received £6000 in compensation.
Mark Allen, industrial solicitor at Irwin Mitchell, said: "I am pleased that my client has been compensated for his noise induced hearing loss by his former employer.
"My client was not given ear protection until he had been exposed to loud noise for around 5 years and by that time the damage had already been done. As a result of his noise induced deafness he will have to use a hearing aid several years earlier than he would have done in any event".
