Claimant worked as a Gas fitter/ Service Engineer for North West Gas/British Gas  and was exposed to excessive noise at work without ear protection (until 1985) between 1959-1993. Ear protection was supplied in 1985 but by that time the damage had already been done. The client was exposed to noise from drills, grinders and Jack hammers.

Mark Allen, industrial deafness solicitor at Irwin Mitchell, said: ”I am pleased that my client has been compensated for his hearing loss by his former employer.” My client was not given ear protection until 1985 and by that time the damage had already been done. As a result of his noise induced deafness he will have to use a hearing aid several years earlier than he would have done in any event for which compensation was recovered”.

The claim was settled for £7,250 in compensation.
