Compensation for Woman after Fall at Shopping Centre

Shopping centre accident

A woman has received £1,900 compensation after she was injured in a fall at a shopping centre.

Sarah was shopping at the centre in December 2007 with her daughter when, suddenly, she slipped and fell as a result of some chocolate ice cream which had been spilt on the floor.

Sarah had tried to stop herself from falling but landed on the floor with her knees and back taking the full impact of the fall causing minor bruising to her knees which settled after a 2 week period but also exacerbating a pre-existing back problem for a period of 6 months.

The claim was settled by Katrina Elsey of Irwin Mitchell’s specialist Accidents in Public Places Team, based in Sheffield. She said, "The shopping centre failed to institute an adequate system for the inspection of the floors which would have prevented this accident from happening".
