Engineer “All At Sea” After Accident at Work Receives Expert Advice and Compensation
Accident at work case
An engineer has received £25,000 compensation after being injured in a work accident.
Patrick McCann worked as an engineer for a components company at the time of the accident.
He was operating a lathe and needed to adjust the machine. In order to do this, he had to close a lever which was stiff and, as he pushed it, the lever slipped from the axel and Mr McCann’s hand smashed into the machine causing a crush to his right little finger.
Unfortunately the injury became infected and Mr McCann had to have repeated surgery to treat the injury and infection.
Mr McCann said he felt "all at sea" before he came to Irwin Mitchell for advice on pursuing a claim against his employers. Lisa Fairclough of Irwin Mitchell’s specialist Accident at Work Team who deal solely with industrial accidents, was able to advise him on the best course of action to take and his claim was successfully settled.
Ms Fairclough said, "Mr McCann is in his early 60’s and had no intention of retiring at the time of his accident. His injury has, however, had an ongoing impact in terms of the type of work that he can do in the future. The settlement that Irwin Mitchell have achieved for him recognises that.
"Mr McCann’s case acts as a reminder to employers that they need to take care that the machinery they are using is in good working condition.
"If they do not do this then they can be held legally accountable for any injuries caused as a result.
"The period after an accident at work can be a confusing and difficult time. It is important to get advice from a specialist law firm who will be able to guide you through the claims process."
