Our recent work

Defamation & slander cases

We have acted on a wide range of cases for businesses and individuals. We have listed four instructions which highlight the depth and range of our expertise in Defamation.

  • Acting for a Premiership football manager in a number of disputes relating to articles appearing in the national and local press.
  • Successfully acting for Michelle Kane, who was falsely named by the Sun newspaper as having close links with the double murderer Ian Huntley, securing an apology and substantial damages.
  • Acting for a prominent University defending an internet libel claim after internal material was accidentally placed on the open website concerning a major business partner, involving ongoing contracts worth in excess of £2 million per annum. A favourable settlement was reached.
  • We have acted for a New York attorney, US Corporation and its chairman in relation to defamatory internet chat room postings made by a UK resident. Ian Hemingway successfully obtained judgment, costs and an injunction against the individual, who was ordered to publish an apology on the chat room.
