Compensation for Rotherham Woman After Trip in Supermarket
Woman Hurt in Trip
15/04/2008
A Rotherham woman has received £1,800 in compensation after falling in Morrison's.
Ms X was visiting the Rotherham branch of the national supermarket chain in February 2007 in order to carry out her shopping. As Ms X was entering the store, she caught her foot on the raised corner of the mat which caused her to trip and land heavily upon the floor. She was seen by the store first aider and then visited her local Accident and Emergency Department to seek medical treatment.
Ms X suffered bruised ribs and took 2 months to fully recover.
A claim was brought against Morrison’s who admitted liability. An out of court settlement was agreed in April 2008 with help from Katrina Elsey of Irwin Mitchell's Public Liability Team in Sheffield.
She said, "Morrison's failed to take reasonable care for Ms X’s safety whilst she was visiting their premises.
"The mats protruding from the floor clearly constituted a danger to visitors of the supermarket."
