Compensation for man after falling object at work causes injury

A man has received £18,000 compensation after he was injured in an accident at work.

Mr X worked for an engineering company and was going about his daily business when a heavy metal bar fell from where it had been left onto his foot causing injury.

Mr X contacted Irwin Mitchell to make a claim against his employers.

Lisa Fairclough of Irwin Mitchell's specialist Accidents at Work Team, who handled Mr X's claim, said, "This was a simple accident which would have been easy to avoid had there been proper procedures in place with regard to how materials and components were stored.

"All businesses should ensure that they properly assess the risks arising for their employees. Risk assessment need not be difficult, a small amount of thought would have prevented this accident and I would urge employers to take time to consider what can and should be done within their businesses to assist in accident prevention and make the work environment safer."
