Compensation For Man After Accident At Work
Chemical Reaction at Work
A man has received compensation after suffering a reaction to a chemical whilst at work.
As part of his role as warehouse operative, Mr G was sent off site where he was required to spray sofas with a protective chemical. He suffered a reaction to the chemicals which caused him breathlessness and tightness of his chest.
Mr G's employers admitted liability after it was alleged that they had not provided Mr G with appropriate personal protective equipment or adequate ventilation and that the risks posed by the chemical exposure had not been sufficiently assessed.
His settlement was achieved with help from Louise Morgan from Irwin Mitchell's specialist Accidents at Work Team in Sheffield.
She said, "It is essential that employers ensure they fully assess the risks posed to their employees by exposure to substances potentially hazardous to health and take steps to reduce or remove the risks by providing appropriate protective equipment and information.
"Fortunately, Mr G's symptoms required only a number of days rest but it could have been much worse."
