Compensation For Cleaner After Accident at Work

Head Injury at Work

20/05/2008

A Sheffield woman has received £2500 compensation after being injured in an accident at work.

Ms X was employed as a cleaning supervisor at a company in Sheffield when she was hit on the head by a hatch that had failed to secure in place.

As a result of the accident, Ms X suffered swelling and bruising across the right side of the head and right eye. She also experienced headaches, blurred vision and tiredness.

The case was settled by Sally Rissbrook of Irwin Mitchell's specialist Industrial Accident team, based in Sheffield.

She said, "This case was difficult and liability was initially denied. Settlement was achieved as it was argued that the locking mechanism on the hatch was insufficient.

"Employers should take every step to ensure that equipment is up to date and adequate enough to perform its task."
