Compensation for Royal Marine Injured while on Military Exercise

Royal Marine compensation case

An out of Court settlement was agreed with the MoD for a Corporal in the Royal Marines who sustained a Military Injury while on Exercise in Ghana.

The Claimant was taking part in jungle training with the Brigade RECCE Team.  One of the team’s taskings that day was to abseil down a rope from a Sea King helicopter before carrying out a patrol.  At the time of the incident it was raining and there high winds. The helicopter was hovering approximately 200 feet when the load master told the Claimant it was safe to exit the helicopter and abseil down the rope. However, the load master failed to check that the brake man was holding the rope and was in the correct position on the ground.

As a result the Claimant was not able to slow his descent on the rope and fell approximately 15 Feet. Claimant sustained a major whiplash injury to his neck and although not medically discharged from the Service he continues to have ongoing physiotherapy treatment on his neck.

Liability was admitted by the MoD and the settlement for this Military Accident represents the pain and suffering of the Claimant.
