Successful Compensation Claim For Mesothelioma Caused by Exposure to Asbestos at Work
Mesothelioma from asbestos at work
A man has received a significant six-figure settlement for an asbestos-related disease caused by exposure to asbestos at work.
Mr X was diagnosed with mesothelioma in autumn 2007.
Mr X was initially employed as an apprentice fitter during the 1950s before becoming an engineer and fitter working at various shipyards. He was exposed to asbestos throughout his employment as he had to remove asbestos insulation from the boilers, engines and pipework onboard various ships in order to fix leaks amongst other defects. Mr X was also exposed to asbestos through laggers working around him.
The case was complicated by the fact that Mr X found it extremely difficult to come to terms with his condition and that there were multiple employers involved, some of whom were defunct.
However, Irwin Mitchell were able to locate the insurers and settle the claim with minimum distress to Mr X.
Neil Wilkinson of Irwin Mitchell’s specialist Asbestos-related Disease Team, based in Newcastle said, "Irwin Mitchell will always try and pursue their client’s cases whilst ensuring that the client is caused the minimum amount of inconvenience or distress".
