Compensation for Steward Following Accident at Work

Successful accident at work case

A man has received over £8000 in compensation after being injured in an accident at work.

Mr X was working as a steward at a Working Men’s Club when the accident happened in July 2004.

During the course of his shift, Mr X tripped over a bottle crate left on the floor in a walkway. He suffered a rotator cuff injury to his shoulder and was admitted to hospital for surgery.

Liability was admitted by the club, with Mr X admitting contributory negligence of 20%.

His case was settled for £8200 with help from Sally Rissbrook of Irwin Mitchell’s specialist Work Accident team.

She said, "Walkways should be left clear and not obstructed at any time. If the bottle crate had been removed, this accident at work would not have happened."
