Van Der Wal Inquest

Inquest verdict

07/03/2008

One of the main issues that the jury had to ascertain during the inquest concerned the series of events that led to the impact which caused the death of Mrs Van der Wal.

To achieve this, the jury needed to identify whether the initial collision occurred between DC Mulcahy and Mr Freeman's vehicle and if so, where it took place.

The jury unanimously found that DC Mulcahy’s vehicle collided with Mr Freeman's vehicle in the slip lane and in turn Mr Freeman’s vehicle then went into the back of Mr Van der Wal’s car.

Carolyn Heaton from Law firm Irwin Mitchell represented Mr Van der Wal said: "It has been a difficult time for Mr Van der Wal and his family throughout the three years that it has taken for the inquest to conclude but he has expressed relief that it is now at an end."
