A lorry driver who caused a multi car pile up on the M62 last year was sentenced to four years in jail and a six year driving ban at Hull Crown Court today.
One of the cars involved in the incident on October 19, 2007 was being driven by 36 year old Jayne Shaw and her nephew, 17 year old Stephen Parkhouse who had just started his second year of a four year joinery course at college, was a passenger. Both died as a result of the collision.
Nicola Meese from law firm Irwin Mitchell represents the Parkhouse family. Speaking on their behalf she said: "The family are understandably still coming to terms with the devastating circumstances that bought them here today and thank the press for respecting their privacy at this difficult time.
"They are relieved that the prosecution of the lorry driver, who actions last October killed Jayne Shaw and her nephew Stephen Parkhouse, is finally over.
"Although they feel that no sentence could be sufficient to reflect their loss, pain and suffering, they feel that today's judgement has served as closure on this very difficult year."
