Leeds based law firm Irwin Mitchell has won the Rehabilitation Initiative of the Year award at the Rehabilitation First Awards 2008 in London.
The award ceremony, which is in its fourth year, was hosted by insurance industry publication Post Magazine at the Honourable Artillery Company and highlights the pioneering efforts of those people and businesses supporting the role of rehabilitation for severely injured people.
The awards are part of the Post Magazine's Rehabilitation First Campaign, now in its eighth year.
Irwin Mitchell scooped the claimant solicitor award for Rehabilitation Initiative of the Year for the firm's work and commitment on two Yorkshire based cases that saw its clients receive settlements of over £5 million.
In the first case Irwin Mitchell represented a male who was severely injured in a serious road collision which left him/her needing round the clock care at a local care home. The case had been taken on after a previous law firm had been unable to secure large enough interim payments to take care of the client's needs.
However, following Irwin Mitchell's intervention the multi million pound settlement was agreed and a Case Manager was assigned which enabled the claimant to live in his own home with twenty-four hour care from a personally chosen nursing team.
In the second instance, Irwin Mitchell was able to negotiate a settlement totalling £6.2 million for its client after he was involved in a serious road collision that left him with severe brain injuries and wheelchair dependant. Irwin Mitchell worked with Norwich Union Insurance to develop a collaborative approach that would best assist the client's recovery, and help him live a full a life as possible.
Louise Jenkins, associate solicitor at Irwin Mitchell solicitors Leeds office commented: "With every case that we work on at Irwin Mitchell, we strive to ensure our clients receive the very best levels of care and rehabilitation to enable them to achieve the highest possible standard of life they can.
"We are obviously thrilled to win the award for our continued commitment to the rehabilitation industry. Anything that continues to raise awareness of what rehabilitation is all about is excellent news, we simply continue to try and deliver inspired solutions to help claimants overcome the challenges they face."
