Husband's Search For Ex-Workers After Wife Dies From Mesothelioma

Mesothelioma

09/07/2008

A Herefordshire man whose wife recently died of Mesothelioma after being exposed to asbestos at work, is appealing for her former work colleagues to come forward to help in his legal battle for compensation.

57-year-old Angela Jane Coldicott of Tedstone Delamere, Bromyard, Herefordshire, was diagnosed in November 2007 with lung cancer, which was later confirmed to be Mesothelioma, the fatal asbestos-related disease. (Write about children/grandchildren here)Sadly, Mrs Coldicott recently passed away on 31st January 2008.

Mrs Coldicott is thought to have been exposed to asbestos dust whilst working as an office clerk for Worcestershire County Council. Mrs Coldicott worked for the Council for the whole of her working life between 1968 and 1998. For the majority of her time with the Council she worked for the Education Department, which for a time was based in a temporary building situated between the police house of the County Jail in Castle Street, Worcester. This building was newly built around 1974 and was called the Conder Building. Mrs Coldicott worked there from around 1974 to 1985.

It was whilst working in the Conder Building that Mrs Coldicott believes she was exposed to asbestos. It has since been confirmed that asbestos has been found in parts of that building.

Mr Coldicott has now launched a search for his wife's former work colleagues who can help him prove that her illness was due to asbestos exposure at work.

He said: "Jane began to suffer from pain in her chest in July 2006. She underwent surgery for an Empyema in Autumn 2006 and it was during this operation that they discovered she had lung cancer. The cancer was later confirmed to be Mesothelioma and Jane had to undergo a series of tests, some of which were invasive and painful. The only time Jane was exposed to asbestos was whilst working for Worcestershire County Council in the Conder Building. Being diagnosed with Mesothelioma was a tremendous shock for both of us and came as a real blow."

Kim Barrett, from the Birmingham office of national law firm Irwin Mitchell, is representing Mr Coldicott in his claim for compensation.

He goes on "It is vital in order for me to continue with this claim for compensation, that people who have worked with Jane in the Conder Building come forward to assist us with our enquiries."

Anyone who worked with Jane Coldicott and/or in the Conder Building in Castle Street, Worcester and/or have knowledge of the use of asbestos building products within the building should contact Kim Barrett at Irwin Mitchell solicitors on 0870 1500 100.
