Mesothelioma
Mesothelioma is a type of cancer that is usually caused by exposure to asbestos – in most cases, although not always, this exposure will have taken place at work. This form of cancer is characterized by the development of malignant cells in the mesothelium, a protective lining that spans most of the body’s internal organs. It is most common for it to develop in the pleura, the lining of the lung.
If you have been diagnosed with, or believe you are suffering from Mesothelioma, you may be entitled to bring a compensation claim against your employer or former employer. Mesothelioma may develop decades after initial exposure to asbestos, and for this reason it is common for Mesothelioma cases to be brought to Court many years after your initial exposure to asbestos.
Proven track record in Mesothelioma cases
Irwin Mitchell has extensive experience in dealing with Mesothelioma cases, and we will help you identify whether the company responsible for your exposure to asbestos still exists. If your employer can be traced, even if they have stopped trading, you may have good grounds for a compensation claim. If the insurers of the companies responsible still exist they will pay any compensation should your claim be successful.
Most people who have developed Mesothelioma have worked in an industrial environment where they inhaled asbestos dust and fibre, or became exposed to asbestos fibres in other ways. If members of your family have also been diagnosed with Mesothelioma, this may have been due to washing work clothes or close contact with the person working in that environment. Home renovation may also have been a key factor, as asbestos cement products used to be readily available and used for construction.
