E-coli infection is usually contracted from eating food products that have been contaminated. The symptoms include anything from mild diarrhoea to more serious conditions such as Haemolytic Uraemic Syndrome (HUS). In some cases e-coli infection can lead to kidney failure and may be fatal.
E-coli infection is most commonly associated with minced beef and other dairy-related foods, but can also be introduced from poorly managed farms.
Salmonella food poisoning is often contracted abroad, but can also be contracted in the UK when food has been poorly stored or prepared.
