Health and Safety Executive information on mesothelioma
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has revealed that in 2006 there were 2056 deaths from mesothelioma. This is the highest number of mesothelioma deaths recorded in a single year since records began.
The HSE previously estimated that annual deaths due to mesothelioma would peak at somewhere between current levels and 2450. This figure is now being revised based on the latest data. Read the full HSE report

Asbestos exposure leading to illness
Most people who develop an asbestos related illness have come into contact with asbestos at work. Until only recently, asbestos was used in virtually every trade and industry and is still present in many buildings today. Some people who develop mesothelioma may not be able to recall working with the material, but may have been exposed to asbestos dust by other means, such as washing dust covered overalls, or living close to a place where it was used.
