Fatal Work Accident after Man Trapped in Lift Shaft

Work accident solicitor repeats warning to employers over safety

A North Lincolnshire man has died after he became trapped between the cage of a lift and the lift shaft at a carpet warehouse in Brigg.

Despite efforts by the Emergency Services the man at the family-run A&F Carpets in Bridge Street, Brigg, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigations have begun into the death by the local council and Humberside Police.

David Urpeth Head of Work Accidents at Irwin Mitchell said: “Having represented many workers who have been injured or killed in industrial accidents, including claims involving lift accidents, I have repeatedly warned employers of their duty to provide workers with a safe place in which to work to avoid workers sustaining injuries or even being killed through workplace accidents.”

“Whilst the exact circumstances of this incident are yet unknown, and we await the findings of the reports from the relevant authorities, clearly something went very wrong.”
