Silzone valves recall

Silzone valves legal advice

This heart valve incorporated a special coating that was designed to reduce the risk of endocarditis, a potentially lethal infection that can occur after heart valve replacement surgery. Silzone Valves were introduced in the UK in 1997 before being voluntarily recalled by the manufacturer (St Jude Medical Inc) in January 2000.

Silzone Valves were recalled following the discovery of a higher number of leakages around the valve when compared to non-coated valves. These leakages cause a high risk of blood clot formation, thrombosis and strokes.
