Norton Airfield Targeted for Housing Development

The former aerodrome in Sheffield has been earmarked by the government as the key location to help it hit building targets.

The land, which would need to be decontaminated given its history of holding fuel dumps, is currently owned by regeneration agency English Partnerships.

According to local MP Mr Betts, consultation with the local community has suggested that if open space is improved and anti social behaviour removed, people are happy to see a limited amount of housing.

He said: "This site, despite the contamination issues has long been coveted by potential developers and is a large and significant site on the fringe of a desirable area within the City and could be expected to attract a lot of attention should it be opened up for housing development.

"Along with the Loxley Valley this is arguably one of the most significant areas for potential development within the City boundaries."
