Coach Crash On M4 Leaves 25 Injured

M4 Coach Crash

06/03/2008

Around 25 people have been injured on the Wiltshire/Berkshire border after a coach crashed on the M4 on Wednesday, March 5.

Most of the casualties suffered minor injuries but one person sustained a spinal injury in the incident that took place between junction 14 for Hungerford and the Membury Services.

Fire crews and staff from Berkshire Ambulance attended the scene and the driver of the coach was taken to the Great Western Hospital in Swindon. Others were taken to Membury Services for further treatment in a second coach.

Thames Valley Police have advised that on first inspection the coach appears to have left the motorway and travelled down an embankment, coming to a rest in some trees. The cause of the accident is still unknown.

Partner Sallie Booth from Irwin Mitchell Solicitors who specialises in group actions commented: "In the immediate aftermath of the accident, the primary concern is for the injured passengers. The investigators will be looking at the cause of the accident and whether it could. There have been a number of recent incidents involving coaches and causing injury. Investigations will hopefully consider whether there are any links between them or whether recommendations should be made for different working practices for drivers, in the interests of public safety."
