Barnsley Breast Appeal

Breast Cancer Patients

01/05/2008

Irwin Mitchell Solicitors are acting on behalf of five cancer patients bringing medical negligence claims arising from their treatment for breast cancer by a surgeon based at Barnsley Hospital.

The surgeon involved, Puvaneswary Markandoo, has now been suspended on full pay over concerns about the standard of her care. At least 28 women are taking legal action.

Georgina Sheldon, Solicitor, at Irwin Mitchell wishes to appeal to any other victims to come forward now before they are too late to pursue legal action. She explains:

"People need to be made aware that legal claims must be issued in court within 3 years of the date when they first became aware that they may have been negligently treated.

Our clients have suffered pain, disfigurement and in some cases, psychological effects as a result of the treatment. There may be other victims out there who are suffering in silence and they must be urged to come forward now, before it is too late."
