 Following Alder Hey Children's Hospital's acknowledgement that it had retained organs and tissue samples from children during post mortem examinations, many hospitals around the country also admitted that they had similary retained organ and tissue samples without consent from children and adults following post mortem examination. The practice of organ retention has occured at both hospital post mortem examinations and coronial post mortem examinations going back as far as the 1970's.

The registration date for joining the NOGL was 31 July 2003. The trial is expected to take place in January 2004.
