Keith Barrett from law firm Irwin Mitchell said: "This was a terrible road traffic accident. Sadly, accidents involving cyclists often result in serious or fatal injuries.

"As a result other road users need to have extra regard for the safety of cyclists to help reduce the numbers of riders who lose their lives in needless road traffic accidents.

"I help many people seek to recover compensation following road traffic collisions."
