A Worksop family whose child was born with profound and severe brain damage had a compensation payment approved at the High Court in London today.

 

The child, Lekisha Brown, was born at Bassetlaw District General Hospital in South Yorkshire. The hospital has made no admission of negligence, but it was alleged that had she been delivered earlier she would not have been born with the severe disabilities she has. At the hearing at the Royal Courts of Justice today the hospital’s deep sadness and regret that Lekisha was born with such a severe disability was expressed and a letter of apology has been sent to the family from the hospital’s Chief Executive.

 

Caitlin Delaney, Associate Solicitor, of Irwin Mitchell Solicitors, said: “No money or words will ever compensate for the fact that Lekisha is so severely disabled, however the money will be held in trust solely for Lekisha’s long-term care needs which she will need for the rest of her life.”
