A 48 year old care worker has been stabbed to death in Lancashire where he was visiting a house.

The victim, who worked for Lancashire County Council has died after suffering from multiple stab wounds following a knife attack.

The incident took place on the morning of Monday, 07 April 2008 and the police were called to Fulwood, Preston where they arrested a man on suspicion of murder.

David Urpeth, a Partner at law firm Irwin Mitchell commented: "Employers have a duty of care to ensure employees have a safe place and a safe system of work. Care workers have to go into peoples homes and the risks they face need to be fully assessed and appropriate systems put in place to protect workers from harm.

"Whilst the exact circumstances of this tragic incident are not yet known, clearly something went very wrong.

"I represent many workers who have been injured or killed in incidents at work in circumstances that could and should have been avoided.

"I am currently acting for a care worker who was attacked with a knife during the course of her employment. Such workplace accidents should not be allowed to happen."
