The professional negligence team secured a significant out of court settlement for their Manchester based client, Michelle Moore, from her former solicitors who acted on her behalf in her defence of criminal proceedings brought in 2002.

Michelle had been wrongly convicted and sentenced in 2002 to 3 years in prison for attacking someone with a glass on a night out in Manchester. She had served seven weeks of her sentence in prison before the Court of Appeal quashed her conviction on the grounds that it was unsafe due to fundamental errors made in the serving of her alibi notice. In quashing the conviction the Court of Appeal was highly critical of her defence team.

The team successfully pursued her solicitors for professional negligence and is delighted with the result, as is Michelle who described the settlement as a brilliant result which marked the end of a very traumatic period. Michelle had been the subject of extensive negative press coverage throughout the original trials and was only too pleased to be given the opportunity to set the record straight in recent press coverage, most notably a slot on ITV Granada.
