Irwin Mitchell’s workplace injuries team have successfully recovered compensation for a man injured in an accident at work.

The man sustained serious injuries when the dumper truck he was driving during the course of his employment malfunctioned whilst travelling down a steep slope.  The man’s attempts to use the brakes proved unsuccessful and he was run over by the back wheels of the truck whilst attempting to jump free from it.

As a result of his accident, our client sustained fractures to both legs requiring surgery and ongoing medical treatment.  He was unable to work for some time following the accident and was reliant upon his mother and girlfriend for his personal care.

The defendant’s insurers accepted liability for the man’s accident on the basis that the accident was caused by a failure to maintain the dumper truck in efficient working order.  Claire Newstead of our Leeds office then successfully negotiated a five figure compensation sum to cover both the man’s injuries and the consequent losses he sustained.
