Irwin Mitchell’s industrial accidents team has succeeded in recovering compensation for a man who was injured when he fell from height during the course of his employment.

At the time of the accident, the man was working as a plasterer on a building site.  He was plastering the ceiling of a room on the site when the scaffolding below him slipped, causing him to fall and sustain an injury.

The man suffered severe orthopaedic injuries, including fractures to his pelvis which required further surgery.  He was confined to a wheelchair for several weeks after the accident and was unable to return to work for almost a year.  As a result of his injuries, he continues to experience pain and now has reduced mobility.

With help from his solicitor, Claire Newstead, the man received a five figure sum in compensation, after the defendant’s insurers accepted liability for the accident. The case highlights the need to ensure that employers put adequate measures in place to protect any employees engaged in work at height from falling and sustaining injuries.
